Cleaning the oak cutting board
After using the oak cutting board, it is best to clean it by rinsing it and wiping it with a dish brush or cloth. Using dish soap will not harm the shelf. Make sure to dry the oak cutting board thoroughly after washing. Preferably put it upright after drying. Make sure that the grain of the wood is vertical. This reduces the chance of warping. Pay attention! Never put the oak cutting board in the dishwasher. This will cause cracks in the board and the quality will deteriorate quickly.
Care and maintenance of the oak cutting board
It is wise to take care of the oak cutting board from time to time. You can do this by rubbing the board with an odorless and tasteless oil, such as cherry kernel oil or linseed oil. The oil forms a protective layer on the board, keeping it in good condition. The Rigo paint factory is a family business in IJmuiden, they make in a traditional way linseed oil of local sources.
Before oiling the oak plank, clean it thoroughly. You do this by slathering the board with lemon juice. Then sprinkle salt on top and rub the lemon juice and salt over the board using, for example, a clean dishcloth. Let the oak board rest for fifteen minutes and then rinse it off. Then dry the oak cutting board well. It is important that the board is completely dry before you put it in the oil.
